Picking up this beauty this weekend; 2006 FatBoy with 1700 plus original miles. Great find here, its from a relative of a relative. The only downside is I have to drive from New Orleans to Cincinnati Ohio to pick her up.
QUESTION: I believe the 06 comes with a 150mm wide rear tire, how diffficult would it be to upgrade to a 200mm?
Sure you can put on a 200. Serious coin will be involved. Kits are out there that will get you started. Overall new tire, wheel, fender, paint, swing arm to name a few. To answer your question it is very easy to do if you have average wrenching skills.
what do umean by classic design fatboy? it's missing the Disc wheels! whatever u do, get the disc wheels first, a fatty looks odd on spokes, like the bastard son of a heritage lol
next is up to u, but I'd keep it withthe original styling if I could doing only minor mods like floorboards, grips, etc...
nice looking bike though
Nice looking Fatty, some people like the pre 07 models because of the narrower tire. I personally do not like the 07 fatboy because it looks to big in the back. A fatboy should be balanced looking from the front to the rear. The bigger tire makes it look out of place.
If you want a set of original disc wheels, I have a set setting in storage.
If you want to put a wider tire on it, then do a search for "Heartland Kits."
One thing to add is, some 06 models had cold start problems due to bad injectors. The dealer can replace them, for free, from an 8 degree to a 25 degree injector, to solve the problem.
You need a heartland or Roland sands kit or one of the others available to upgrade to a 200 tire. It is a lot of work and quite expensive as stated above. About $2000 for the kit, and then you gotta get the new rear fender painted and if you are not doing it yourself pay for labor. I agree to leave it as it is. The classic style fatboy's last year was 2006. The original tank emblem, and before they went to the 200 tire.
IMO I dislike the new fatboys with a 200mm rear tire, the fender just looks F-ugly when seen from behind, it always reminds me of that old Suzuki Intruder where the flat-wide-rear fender made the bike appear it was more tin than muscle, besides, as said earlier, I think fatboys were meant to be balanced to look beefy, not to add more "junk in the trunk"
I'm partial to the 150mm rear tire as well. I have to strongly disagree about the disc wheels though. I bought my 06 with the laced wheel option because I don't like the disc wheels. But that's what is great about these bikes, to each their own.
