I just wanted to have everyone wish me luck this weekend. A friend of mine and Iare installing the street slammer handlebars and diamond back brake, clutch and throttle cable lines onto my 06 standard. Hope all goes well. According to the service department it takes 7 1/2 hours for installation. I hope it rains all day.
Reno I put on T bars, run wires inside the bars and installed diamond back cables and bake line
2 weeks ago on an 06 Night train. It took about 5 1/2 hrs to do the wiring and all.
Here is the end result. 5 1/2 hours of work but all done. I installed the bars, diamond back lines, rear axle covers, side mounted license plate and new mirrors.
Looks awesome, what an improvement.[sm=smiley20.gif]
So do you think that the stealership is inflating their labor for mods? If it took you two hours less than their estimate having never done one before, I have to imagine that it would actually take them a little less time. Sometimes it pays to do things yourself.
it really depend on how the install was done whether they inflated thier labor time or not. I put the same bars on mine and I asked the stealer what they did for the internal wiring, they remove the tank and staggered splice in longer wires in below the tank. Myself I just bought a harness and fed it through the bars and then soldered bothe ends.
It sure looks good, how do the feel? comfotable ride? It sure is a great feeling to be able to be talking with someone and be able to say "I did that" instead of "I had that done".
The ride is pretty nice. I am only 5'9" and depending on how I sit, I can either be stretched out or straight up.
For the installation, it was myself and 2 friends. I can not do any wiring because I am green/red color blind so dooing electrical is out of the question for me. My one friend did all the re-wiring and I consintrated on the other things. It was an uneasy feeling seeing a less than one year old bike sitting there in pieces but it's back together and runs great.
Time wise it was a total of 6 hours but we had to run out and buy a tool and then also eat lunch, so I just deducted the time from the installation time. Maybe that is how the stealership gets it 7 1/2 hours, for lunch and break times.
