It's not the leather that's abrasive so much as it's usually what ends up between the two surfaces - road grime, sand, dust, even the salt (FL for example) and contaminants in the air. Adhere something (tape, contact plastic, etc) to the stationary surface to be protected, NOT the surface that will vibrate/move.

3m sells a clear decal, i use this all the time, alot of Vett's and high end cars use this same material for car bra's

If your cool with chrome, buy the swingarm chrome covers, they go on in no time and wont show the rub like paint or powdercoat..I've had a hog deluxe bag on mine for about 6000 miles, no issues..
