Stage one on a 96 efi will pull away from a stage 1 88 carb any day. I have done it! You are right though 6 gear is only good for The highway. I dont use it below 60. I never thought I would like 6 gears but since I cruise at 85 to 90 on the hghway I love it.

Guys don't do it for the 96 or 6 speed. the 96 stock will barely pull away from a 1340 with a stage 1 kit at 70mph. That's a fact because I couldn't get away from my buddy's glide. It might be different with the stage 1 kit on the 96. As far as the 6 speed there is no noise just a different cut 5th gear. You can't even hear it unless you ride with ear plugs in. It is the same sound that the 5 speed makes all the time, just no different sound to compare it to. If it's speed and power you want get the big bore kit and go on. The 6th gear is only good on the freeway. Don't even get to it until 55 or 60 mph. Now that fat back tire is what got me!!! Good luck and enjoy your ride...
