I use either mineral spirits or EZ Off Oven cleaner to get stubborn marks off chrome pipes. I'd never use steel wool of any grade. It's abrasive and will erode chrome.

Triple 000 steel wool will not damage chrome.

but once cleaned (I use brasso Metal polish and soft shoe polishing cloth) what is the best to protect chrome.

I have taken to use some WD40 but that leaves a shine on it, can wax stand the temperatures?

Thnx
Robert

I called Cobra Exhaust co. one time to ask how to take melted plastic off the pipes...The guy told me to use Oven cleaner...the kind that you use cold. leave it on for a while and scrub with a 3M scrubbing green pad....work on the toughest of stains...maybe overkill but i wanted to pass along a tip that worked for me.

After a good cleaning and drying and polishing and waxing, I still can't resist spraying the entire bike down with wd-40. It protects everything... it will collect dust but then all it takes to get it clean again for at least three times is a thorough rinsing with clean water.
