I've been searching for a luggage rack that bolts onto my backrest for my 99 Fatboy. All I seem to be able to find are racks for 2000 & later applications. I called my local Harley dealership to see if they would fit on my 99 Fatboy, & he said no, that the measurements on the backrests were different,( my 99 is wider he said). He gave me 2 part numbers for luggage racks that he said "he's sure" will fit my 99. I looked them up in a Harley catalog, & both of them say that they fit 2000 & later. I'm as confused as a breast feedin baby at a titty bar. What's the real scoop on this?

Here are a few links, 86 thru 99 models I think are the same.
If you can find a dealer with an older Harley parts catalog, your bike will be listed The dealer is probably using a newer catalog. Google "99 Fatboy luggage racks". If you find a Harley part number for a rack and it is obsolete, you can still find them on the internet for sale new. http://www.vtwinmfg.com/Catalog1/VTwinCatalogIndex1.htm look on page 427 and page 428.
Also look up after market luggage racks from v-twin mfg, and Custom Chrome.
Thanks Rocky. Actually, the parts guy put me on hold while he went to find an older catalog. That's what confused me. When I found those part numbers in my newer catalog & they said 2000 & later, I thought, WTF.

Lol, I assure you that if the parts counter looker uppers at your local stealer are anywhere near the level of idiots that are at mine, he was much more confused than you were...Serious, id do better most of the time asking my wife to look up a part than calling those morons...
Sad but true! Most of these guys look at it as just a job but that's what you get for $10/hr. We had one that was full of attitude. Acted like a bad *** and tried to look mean all the time but he was nothing more than a putz.
Do they have the racks in stock? If they do ride in and take one out to compare it with the bar. You'll know pretty quick if it will fit or not.
LOL. Aint gonna be no ridin nowhere here in Nebraska. 13" of snow & a high of 4 degrees today. I could just take the backrest off the bike & take a road trip,(by car), to the dealership & check it out though.
Parts counter looker uppers. LOL. Maybe Budweiser will dedicate a song to them. "Here's to you Parts counter looker upper guy". LOL.
