Default What to buy?

Previous owner of Fat Boy and Road King Classic (traded former for the latter which I sold to purchase land in SC). Anyway, I am back in the market as I miss the sh** out of riding. I am torn between the Fat Boy Lo and the Cross Bones. Would make a few changes to the FB (pipes, color coordinate) and the CB that I saw at the dealer had a different seat (possibly a Badlander) great for the 5’ 8” stature (would also change the pipes).

Have not had the opportunity to ride either, as it had snowed the day of my visit. Love the look of both (with planned changes) so ultimately it comes down to the ride (handling, comfort etc.) and from what I read on motorbyte.com (2008 review), the CB was somewhat difficult to handle w/the springer front and mini ape-hanger which also resulted in numb hands after only a few minutes and the feeling that you were doing pull ups and sit ups at higher speeds.

A review of your experience riding the aforementioned bikes would be greatly appreciated as it is currently in the 20s and I don’t think I can effectively evaluate the ride in the time that I have to terminate my ride before the onset of hypothermia.

I love my lowered fatboy with knuckle bars. I'm only a bit taller than you, 5'10". I had a badlander seat on it and damn that thing sucks. It was only good for about 60 miles and I was begging to get off the bike. I have since put a C&C seat on it and that was worth every penny. The biggest thing I've lost with my lowered FB is lean angle, but I'm fine with that.

After having the opportunity to ride both bikes, I bought the CB; love the mini-ape bar and Springer front end. The bike was so much fun to ride, I didn’t mind that it was only 32 degrees. I also racked up some miles on the test ride (wanted to dispel the negative reviews) and then noticed the low fuel light and didn’t feel like pushing it back to the dealer.

Contrary to the negative reviews I read at various sites, my hands did not fall asleep after only a few minutes, the front end was very responsive, my abs were not sore the following day and the seat was super comfortable.

Can’t wait to take delivery (left it at the shop for some upgrades; Vance & Hines Pipes, LePera seat (I know I said the stock was comfortable, I am just a fan of the low profile solo seats) and some other goodies to the tune of $3000.00; I need counseling!

The FB Lo was ok; didn’t care for the handlebars or the fact that the floorboard scrapes the ground when turning (I don’t believe my lean into the turn was exaggerated).

In closing, it is great to be back!
