Default Harley's DUMBEST ideas

In order to mount a Harley oil pressure gauge on the rocker box, I had to remove the seat to raise the tank to get the bolts out of the rockerbox.
Putting the seat back on proved slightly ill-fitting, as the rear spring screw behind the passenger seat would barely line up.
This would have been no problem if they'd had the sense to use ALLENS instead of the eternally slip-prone and uncontrollable straight slotted screws to mount the seat.
So, despite knowing there were allready some scratches around it from the previous owner, and knowing I had a giant flathead screwdriver in my hand, I STILL slipped off the dang thing and put a 3" scratch in my back fender.
I feel like a mad klutz. Dammitboy.

Try replacing the slotted with a phillips. Better and that way you will only get a 2" scratch.

I really don't think that flathead screw is OEM.

Even if it was OEM fasteners are sold at any hardware store so the scratch is all your fault.

...but you just HAD to have that gauge that Harley didn't think you needed in the first place....lol

I agree. I don't recall seeing any flathead screws securing the seat on late model bikes.

Touch-up paint will help hide the scratch.
