getting my first harley tonight/ lowering question
well after looking for the last couple years i finaly bit the bullet and bought my first harley and am picking her up to night. needless to say i havent been able to sleep for the past 4 days since i left a deposit on it.
it's a 1994 nostalgia with 14k miles on it, completly stock minus some scraming eagle slip ons and is in perfect condition. got it for $7750 (i didnt think it was a bad price at all).
i started ording parts to lower it, progressive lowering kit for the front and just lowering bolts for the rear. lowering bolts will probably be temporary unless i can get the preload right on the shock. plans are getting the progressive 422's.
now my main question and it's probably a real newbie one.
lowering the bike 2 in. both front and back will you need a diffrent kick stand? i did a search and didnt find anything (i am new so i may of missed it)
ive been lurking on here for the past week and you guys seem to know your stuff pretty damn good.
You don't "need" a shorter stand if you're very, very careful how and where you park. However, if you plan to keep it lowered, having a shorter stand will go a long way toward easing your mind each and every time you park the bike and walk away from it. You can find shorter stands on eBay, among other places. Oh, and since you're new to Harley's, Harley kickstands are generally referred to as "jiffy stands". And welcome!
Arlen Ness sells a -1" under kick stand for your bike. Give them a try if you don't feel comfy with your stocker.
Also with your lowering bolts just tighten them up alll the way with a spanner wrench...thats your sweet spot. You won't even think about 422's after that.
I dropped mine 2" rear with the progressive 422's and an 1.5" in the front with the progressive drop-in kit and my stand works fine. Just take note of your oil level after the drop so when you do an oil change you get the level correct - on the deluxe's the manual calls for the level to be checked on the jiffy stand, not sure on your scoot.
i saw the arlen ness -1" stand when i was looking at their lowering kit, luckily i read here before buying that kit. i'll have to get a manuel, it's on my list of things to do. it would be nice to get away with just the lowering bolt, dont want to fork over the cash for the 422's (at least not any time soon).
