Oddly enough I've had 2 occasions where they've come in handy. I wear a full face now more because I also wear glasses and freakin goggles over glasses are more of a PITA than a full face lid. Plus I don't often ride with a windshield and it keeps road crap from stinging the face. So not really a safety issue for me more of a creature comfort
I have more serious life time injuries from falling off my skate boards and playing sports than I do from any of my dirt or street motorcycle accidents.
Before it was law here in Cali, I mostly wore a helmet. But that was only to keep my long hair in check. I could never keep a cap from flying off my head.
Now when I'm in a state with no law, I sometimes ride with no helmet but feel strange, kinda naked, when doing it. Even wearing a NON DOT helmet will help me feel more comfortable.
I like being relaxed when I ride (by the way, a few drinks is soooo relaxing), so I wear a helmet. DOT or NON DOT doesn't matter.
The ONLY protective gear that is a MUST HAVE for me are glasses. I don't want anything F'n up my sight while rideing.
No bro i hear you, all vaid points, I actually do wear a helmet once in a while, but i just hate absolutely hate, the government telling me i have too, hey lets face it every one knows it is safer to wear one, its common sense, the big issue to me is having the freedom to decide, LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE..thats what they tell us atleast, but the freedom seems to keep disappearing and its because if people dont care about a particular freedom they dont help out there buddy who might be real passionate about it, i am not sure if i am making sense, but as bikers i think everyone should be pissed when they have no choice whether they would have chose too or not.
I with ya on the choice thing and taking away freedoms. It should be up to the person. You're making sense but it's up to each state to make that call, so there has to be a big enough showing in each state to oppose it and make them change the laws. Getting a big group together and work with a bigger group that has pull in the state is about the only way to make it at least start to happen.
They take away freedoms if we as a population allow it. If we make enough noise and oppose it, they will change it back or back off from trying to change current laws. Not to get political but look at healthcare...elections in a few states turned against the majority and the idea because the PEOPLE didn't want it. Now it's all but dead. Those election spoke loud and clear what the majority of the Nation wanted.
I have to wear a helmet in WA however when I cruise to Idaho the helmet is off. Their is no other feeling then cruising your scoot with the open wind in your face.
Right on Black Bagger I only wish it was that easy in WA some of the LEO's have it out for us especially in Eastern WA. Hey but your right what they don't know won't hurt
i did alot of that when thing's were boomin i'm more on the down key now that every one's lookin for money. they arn't putting extra $$ in my checks ..
