I wear one because it's more comfortable than not wearing one.

No one state did, I don't believe, Black Bagger. In 1974, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) introduced their Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218 (FMVSS 218) for Motorcycle Helmets. These strict standards were mandatory for helmet manufacturers and every helmet was required to have a DOT-approved sticker inside.

The Fed's said that if the state(s) wanted Federal funding, they would adhere and make mantantory this standard. But in 1975, for some reason, Congress withdrew the requirement and, within 3 years, half the states had repealed their laws.

Chose Option 3.. Wear a Helmet most of the time, but also enjoy freedom of choice to do so as well, and exercise it now and then ..

Here in Ky helmet mandatory with permit, not required after you get license. I agree with many who have posted, that it should be the choice of individual. I got a DOT half helmet for christmas, and plan on wearing it most, if not all of the time. We are bordered by states with helmet laws, so i needed one anyway.

I always wear mine full face modular but that’s my choice now that I’m retired from Army. In Florida I get some wise *** remarks but it’s my choice so I don’t care what the bar flies say.
This is a great site showing motorcycle statistics where 4,935 riders where killed while riding.

Wear one to keep the dome warm, not very often when the temps are above 50.
