Hey folks, I'm stuck in Afghanistan for another month and have been adding my wish list up for my Fatboy Lo Ijsut got before I came over. I want to put 14" apes on it but don't know about 1.25" or 1.50" in dia. They're going to be blacked out and on top of an FL style headlight. What's your guys take on it? Thanks in advance!
Doug
IMO 1.5 is just too fat of a bar, but thats almost 100% ur personal opinion...
if you are looking at apes, carlini has some pretty interesting designs to check out...best of luck with ur fat boy when you get back here and thank you for your service out there!!
I'd go with 1.5" Carlini bars if I had a fatboy along with their 1.5 risers. It seems most around here like the setup and says its safe. I think the fatter bars look better on the fatboys/FLs due to their bigger front ends. I'm not sure who else makes a decent 1.5" bar.. Your options on riser/clamps are pretty limited. There's tons of options for 1.25" bars. Whatever bars you get, just make sure that they're tapered down to 1" at the grips/controls.
Go Carlini and definitely go 1.5". I have 14" Carlini Fly'in Apes with the matching pison risers on my 2004 Fatboy. The 1.5" bars look insane sitting on top of those FL forks. Mine were installed months ago and I still go out in the garage just about every night and stare at them like a three year old eyeing a Christmas tree.
The guys at Carlini are super cool. I would just about bet that if you call them directly and let them no you're in the military and currently stationed in the Middle East, they will hook you up with a discount.
I like the 1.5" Carlini's as well. They are phat! No such thing as the bars being too phat. I can get you a deal on Carlini's too. If you are interested shoot me a PM. Thank you for your service sir!
picking my FB Lo up tomorrow after having 12" apes installed mine are 1.25" and they look good-but when you get right down to it what matters is what you like on your bike not what I like. Good luck on your wish list and get home safely.
Gray Drifter, I love those risers. They are just kick a$$. The bars ain't to shabby either. Chaingunzz be careful over there and get home safe. It's almost riding season.
