Exclamation Lowering a Heritage question.

Will lowering a new Heriatge with new 1" lower shocks cause the angle of the pipes to slant down slightly? (being mounted to the frame and all?)

I don't really like the pipes on the bike to start with, but if they weren't exactly horizontal I would hate them even more.

Thanks for any advice from those who know the answer.

I have my sled lowered, I didn't do that well in geometry, but you may get a little angle change. Mine didn't do much.

they are gonna angle down. if you drop the rear an inch, the rear of the pipes is going with it.

Not as much as you think, reason is..
As the rear wheel slides further from the bike (that is what the lowering does), the rear drops a bit.
The Frame is not 'hinged' at the triple tree neck, it will drag the triple tree neck down a git too, which means the the fork will actually rotate a bit over the front axle (the second hing point, allowing for the neck to drop down.

What will happen is actually 'racking' of the front wheel !, as the fork gets kicked out a notch, and the front wheel slides out a notch. your bike wheel to wheel length will increase a notch.

So, your concern of how 'horizontal' the pipes are, is not a big deal, you should be concerned more of the bike handling, scrapping in corners, harsher lower ride, and/or change of geometry.

My bike is lowered 2" rear and 1" front and I would not ride it without spring seat or a 'kidney donor in hand' LOL

But I ride it a LOT

Hope this helps.

Thanks I8SMK4U, but I'm referring to the stock pipes.... You have thunderheader pipes which angle up anyway.

Thanks, I;m not sure I understand what you are saying, because all I want to do is lower the rear 1" --> and essentially isn't the Deluxe the same as a Heritage just lowered in the rear 1"??

Thanks, thats what I thought. Maybe I'm probably better off going with the Deluxe which is factory lowered and the pipes look great.

If you lower the rear just 1 inch you won't even notice that little bit of change in pipe angle.

+1. the only way your gonna keep everything level is to drop both ends equally. however I dropped my deluxe 2" in the rear and I like that chopper feel. It is pretty rough but not terrible.
