Those (progressive) are just extended bolts with progressive bushings...same as the $20.00 cheepo's. Pre-load is adjusted with a spanner wrench on the shock.... You should do a search and read. There are tons of threads on "how to adjust pre-load" on softail shocks.....good luck

Maybe your cheapest and easiest route would be to buy the cheapo bolts. Then take out your shocks yourself, take them down to your local indy. Have them install/press the bolts in. Make sure to tell them to tighten/adjust them all the way up with a spanner. This is usually the sweet spot with lowering bolts. Then reinstall yourself....Bingo your done..
Or just have the indy do it all for about $130.00 Labor + $25.00 bolts...don't forget to tell to tighten them up...bottom outs on your tailbone don't feel to good....

yes you will need a lift and it says that you dont have to disasemble the shock. you have to remove it regardless of what option you choose. as far as adjustment you just turn the nylock nuts out to lengthen the shock (lower) or in to shorten it(higher)

I plan on doing it all myself. I've got a budy with a press, so if I go the bolt route, I'll just pull the shocks off and run down to his shop... picking up his brand of suds on the way. Thanks a lot for the input.
I had the $20 lowering kit on my 02 before I got my air ride system. But when my wife saw me having to adjust the height everytime she wanted to ride (it really didn't need adjusting) she thought that the air ride was the best way to go.
The lowering kit worked great. I do remember having to use a press to install the studs.
i have to do this to my bike to! i changed my rear wheel to 18", now i will topple over going around corners if im not careful!! lol, so the $20 studs have to be pressed on and the burnout type ones dont right??
FYI, the press is necessary for compressing the shock spring so you can remove the retainer clip, then the whole shock will slide apart and you can un-thread the OEM stud and re-install the new one. It takes longer to get the shocks off then it does to do the mod.
