I did this about 2 months ago on my Fatty. For me the worst was the aft nut on the flange at the rear jug. I bought a cheap combo wrench and blow torched it to a 90 degree angle as close to the open end as I could. If you can get the angle tighter than 90 degrees without breaking it will be even easier.

Good luck

What model number are your samson fishtails? Longtails.....What is the difference.

Thanks!

longtails are pointed at top and bottom and fishtails are pointed at top and go straight down.

Yep they are longtails...you may want to check out the new 33"ers ...perfect length IMO....they just came out recently. Mine are even with the rear fender and the 33" past a little.

Thanx for the compliment.

Here's an update. I got the true dual head pipes on no problem. I did not have an issue with the the lower nut on the rear jug, just used a long thin socket extension. I used a harley clamp on the joint between the crossover pipes, so tightening it was not so bad. Only needed to get one wrench in there and was able to get it with a socket since the nut was facing up. I first installed a set of cycle shack MHD-325 fishtails using the samson muffler brackets. This was not so smooth and I was only able to attach the muffler at one point. The cycle shack mufflers were to loud for my taste and for the life of me I have not been able to get the baffles out to install the quieter inserts. I even tried chaining a muffler to a tree (carefully!), hooking a tool into the rear of the muffler and pulling with a come-along. No luck. Bent the tool. I switched to the stock muffler brackets (springer classic) and fab'd a strip of sheet metal to extend the rear bolt hole 2" to allow me to mount the stock springer fishtails. A little too quiet again, but at least I'm riding. I'm going to check out other bikes this summer and see what others are running for mufflers and how they sound. I know it's very much individual preference on sound level.

I'm running into a problem removing the existing exhaust.
How to get to the bolts that hold the exhaust to the stock bracket??
It looks like you need a really short open end wrench??

Also, I think the instructions say that you remove the whole black bracket that holds
the stock exhaust??
The passenger footpeg is on that bracket? What do I do with the footpeg after its removed?

The bracket is 2 pieces, iirc. Take off and discard the bulky bracket, and just put the tube that the peg attaches to back on.

aight, i got it
the new samsons are on.

but still got a question.
how far is the crossover pipe that connects to the u-pipe supposed to go
into the bike?

as you can see, from above the seat, that's where the pipe is.
it's not burning my thighs or anything..and when you look at the whole
exhaust on the left side, it lines up with the black bracket on the frame..
so i'm thinking its ok, but i'd like to know if it needs to be
pushed in further.
