First off,I'd like to say hi and after reading a bunch of posts and viewing some pics of your scooters, all I can say is "sweet!"
I've owned bikes all my life but my this is my first Harley and I wanted to be sure I took the proper care it deserves.I'm hooked. There is definitely something about the Harley that can't be said about any other bike I've owned. It just feels alive when I ride it.
Anyhow....
It had just over 13k on it when I bought it so I took it in to my local Harley shop for a 10k service.
I was only able to put 3k on it last year and decided to change the oil myself last week.
When I drained the oil it was as black as anything I've ever seen.
Is this normal or did the dealership possibly not change the oil during the service?
Oh and it's a '96 Heritage Softail.
Thanks for your responses in advance.
Right after an oil change the oil will start to darken due to the fact there is a about a 24 oz of old oil left inthe engine...pulling the plug does not get it all out.
I made my own scavenger for about $10.00 and use it every time I change oil and have really noticed a differance how clean my oil stays.
After I changed my oil for the first time, and noticed that a lot of oil was left in the engine, I saw that scavenger movie posted. Loved it. Great idea!
Alright since I've got that problem out of the way,I used Screaming Eagle synthetic oil.
Anyone have a preference for other oils?
Oh and thanks for the fast/great responses.
I've come to the right place it would seem
