I recently purchased a tach "kit". I usually can install accessories as long as good directions are included. I'm having trouble dicephering the instructions for this tach, however.
Have any of you installed one of these tach kits? How did you run the wiring? (I'm not sure whether to run it underneath the gas tank or the console.) On mine, I have to make three connections - the 'ground' connection located beneath the seat on the frame, the fuse box, and to some misteryous location on the speedometer.
i didn't install mine hd did, but i have looked it over. mine the wires run under the gas tank, and the one for the speedo i think runs up the front of the tank with the factory harness.
Jezcruzen,
The signal wire for the tachometer...usually yellow, would go into cavity number 3 on the plug that connects to the speedometer. You will need a special terminal end ...HD part # 74196-04 to put on the end of your signal wire. I hope this helps.
Thanks, Thugged. Yeah, I pulled my console last night and looked it over underneath. It was a little confusing regarding exactly where that lead was supposed to attach.
Unfortunately, that particular lead with the special attachment point for the speedo was missing from the box. I had to go by the dealership today to have them order a replacement. They told me it would take FIVE DAYS!
