i have a hd tach and trying to install on a 05 deuce. i guess hd stop installing the harness from the ecm up front for the three pin hook up. looks like i have to install a pin in the #3 cavity on the ecm for the signal. guess what i'm asking does anyone make a connector for the install verses making up my own harness?? thanks, brook
when i installed one one my 04 deuce everything was included in the harley tach.
I installed it in 04 so i dont remember much. I remember installing a pin in a connector but didnt need to make a harness. I do remember how well the tach was ingineered to go on the bike. I also remember the directions saying to take the tank off. I didnt i justun bolted it and l;ifted it uo to hide wires.
You don't need a pin for the number 3 connector. On the Deuce you will find the line is already run for you and is terminaed under the dash - its the pink wire tied off just behind the speedometer. The other two connections (ground and power) are made at the aft end of the tank. The tach ground wire connects the same place as the two other grounds on the rear tank mount. For the power wire you make thesplice in the line forward of the plug that exits the rear fender. Although the Service Manual tells you to remove the tank to do the hookup its not really necessary. You have to remove the forward tank mount bolt and the rear nut but you can easily raise the tank enough to route the wires under it.

Maybe on the older bikes, but not on my '06, there is no pink tach wire anymore.
you need to add a pin to the speedo connector, the #3 terminal on the speedo connector is the tach signal.
