I actually prefer the look to be honest, think it adds "muscle".. then again, everybody and their mother has a retro-looking bike already all depends on personal taste I guess, I myself don't understand the appeal of hard-bags on a lo either but others here seem to like those too.

So I take it that it is just cosmetic? No real function.
Like I said I did not want to offend any one I am all for making a bike your own.

Based on the length of the instructions, it seems more then cosmetic, (although that was my main purpose) Voltage Regulators and all.. possibly it improves air-flow around the engine. I'd only be speculating.

Actually it might be possible it serves the same purpose that many cars have with spoilers...

"Cars have spoilers to increase their grip on the road. Normally the weight of a car is the only thing that forces the tires down onto the pavement. Without spoilers, the only way to increase the grip would be to increase the weight, or to change the compound the tire was made out of. The only problem with increasing the weight is that it doesn't help in turns, where you really want to grip. All that extra weight has inertia, which you have to overcome to turn, so increasing the weight doesn't help at all. The way the spoiler works is like an airplane wing, but upside down. The spoiler actually generates what's called 'down force' on the body."

I have it on my bike and can't tell if it makes a difference or not, just like the look. I can tell you though that everything (water, dirt, rock, gravel) gets caught in it from the front wheel - a big pain in the *** to keep clean. The front fender doesn't come down far enough to prevent debris from collecting in it - and if it did, I don't think you would be able to steer looks like the fender would hit it.

But looks like the plastic is black all the way through anyway, no danger of scraping anything off.. frankly I can't tell if it's been primed at all, looks like any old, black plastic item you'd get in a store.

Did anyone else install a front spoiler?? (I saw a couple people had them) and if you did, did you bother to have it Powder-Coated or just install it as is?? And can plastic be powder-coated anyway since it's being cooked??

I didn't read you post prior to my previous response. I put mine on myself. Not sure if you can powder coat since it's plastic. Don't bother with black demin just get a can of flat black paint and paint it yourself. After a few hundred miles it will look like crap anyway (read previous [post).

6000 miles on my spoiler, Didn't paint it, left it primer, matches fine, Just for looks I believe and a pain to install. Harley says a engine guard won't fit, It does, You just have to use your own hardware, a short bolt and locknut.

That's Great news! I was worried that I'd have to have only one or the other.. there are smaller guards for each side they told me that would fit, but they said no Full guard... good to know it does.
