anyone who decides to use the RaceTech Gold Valve Emulators.. make sure you have a fork spring compressor, because holy hell putting those things back together are a pain in the ***. I don't understand how they expect you to make 1" spacers and manage to fit them inside the fork tube with the emulator and the springs.. you're already compressing the spring more with the emulator, then compress it another Inch? Not happening.. but..i got them back together and back on the bike.. they take less fluid now too, from 13.4 oz which is the stock recommendation to probably about 12.6 or 12.8oz.. idk if i screwed up the 422's either, but i have them set (to what their website and directions say) as the lowest setting..but the back end doesn't look any lower..maybe when i sit on it, it'll look like how i want it. idk. Oh well. Now just waiting on powdercoat. Oh speaking of powdercoat, somehow I got a chip in one of my fork lowers.. driving me absolutely insane to look at it.. it's microscopic really, but i notice it. hopefully some touchup paint will cure it, else i'm going to start punching things
So I got the DKCustoms 1.5" tank lift on.. the stock seat doesn't exactly fit properly with the rear spacer kit on a ..took a lot of man-handling to get the seat bracket in to the frame where it hooks on, then to squeeze the seat forward enough to get the bolts through.. after I got a new bolt and dremel'd out the brackets a bit (the bolt they sent me wasn't exactly straight, and it got stuck on one of the brackets which required me to hammer, heat, smash, drill, and cut finally to get the bolt loose), the front went together well enough.. I have no clue what the overflow tube on the tank is connected to underneath..i traced it all the way back and it seems like it goes under the seat pan then disappears.. The turn signal barely hits the tank on a full left turn of the handlebars, i guess my math was off by like a 1/16" or 1/32".. otherwise i'm pleased with the results..though i'm not sold on how hard it was to re-install the seat..
I got in a couple of parts for the Lo. Just a lock latch for the sissy bar, gaskets for the exhaust and a transmission side cover in wrinkled black. I have a question about the cover. Does anybody know what the part number is for the gasket and how much of a pain is it to install? I'm waiting till I get my pipes in so that I have plenty of room to work with.
The clutch housing cover ("Six Speed") gasket? Mine was between $6-$8 i think, i dont have the receipt anymore to double check.. and it was surprisingly easy to remove everything, but like they all say, be careful with the clutch cable.. remove the cover, then disassemble everything inside of the cover, then with an open ended wrench on the cable coupler (outside of the cover)..physically spin the cover to unscrew the cable from it.. that way you're not putting any tension on the cable..and it should come right out. Was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.. There's a good diagram in the manual.. I'm waiting for mine to get back from the powdercoater, which is taking forever.
I actually loosened the cable while the cover was still on the bike; for me it was easier that way, but it might not be for everyone. Also, don't be like me and leave the exhaust on there when removing and replacing the cover... go ahead and loosen them up so you have some play. It will save you from cussing up a storm and busting your knuckles. Then again, I also took mine off and put it back on with a tiny L shaped allen wrench...
Sgt Jim: So how much of a difference can you see with the tank lift? from the pics I can tell a little, but I just can't see that much of a difference. I guess thats the thing about photos, you only get to see the angles at which they were shot. To me, it looks great. The only ting I can see that I am not a fan of, is that the tank lift makes that damn fuel crossover line stick out like a sore thumb. And I must say, your bike is still looking bad ***, propped up in the dining room and all!
So I am getting close to going home and I am STILL debating what I want to do with the engine... my 3 choices so far are:
-Gloss black oil tank and gloss black covers: most expensive
-Denim black covers, to match the oil tank (PCer said they can match exactly): cheaper
-Leave the damn engine alone: free, and would allow for other mods
I am already going to get a **** load of other stuff powdered, which is set in stone, but the above has just been rolling around in my head like the wheels of a slot machine... Thoughts?
