If it makes you feel any better, I just spent the past 6 days tearing my bike apart and putting it back together trying to find the source of an odd and obnoxious "squeak" when I hit a bump.. tore the forks apart, tore the headlight apart, tore the neck apart, changed the wheel bearings, checked everything..it wasn't until i gave up and finally put it all back together, and while i decided to try scrubbing some old metal polish paste off from the motor that i realized it was 1 damn exhaust flange nut that came loose and was squeaking.. 6 days of work, tearing down and rebuilding, test riding, putting scratches in the paint, tearing the powder coat in places, and melting 1 pair of workout pants to an exhaust pipe all for 1 damn nut. So i feel for ya.
And I bet you didn't say one bad word when you found that loose nut!
I just ordered a set of LA Choppers 14" apes today at my local dealer. He didn't really know what length upper brake line to go with since it's abs, so we did +8. We did the same on the other cables too. Can anyone confirm that is a good length? I'll be using the stock risers.
You should be great if they are 14" total, I had ordered +8" for my 16" carlini's and they were to short! I was pissed and measured and everything even added 2" more to the measurements. The Carlini's were alot wider to since they are 1.5" OD bars.
Thanks for the input guys. I really wanted to order the carlin I flying apes, but I could not justify over $200 more. I hope these LA Chopper bars turn out nice!
I have been reading a few posts on bleeding the front w/ abs. Still not exactly sure about the process. If anyone has a link to a step by step, I'd love to see it.
Just got off the horn, and have ordered all the items to complete the Stage 1.
Apparently few companies make black forward controls for the 2010 Fat Boy Lo, and they come with quite a hefty price, not to mention that you need to swap out the kickstand for a completely stock 2006 to something-or-other kickstand assembly.
The guy I spoke to (and I trust his opinion) believes it would be difficult to near impossible to simply swap out the footboards for footpegs. Oh, well - so much for that idea.
Ummmm no. All you need is the forwarrds from a FX softail like a 2009 night train. If you look in the P&A book, there is a kit to swap to forwards for FL softails. If you plan to buy aftermarket brake and shift levers, all you really need from the kit is the left and right side brackets, the shifter arm, and that is about it. Other than your choice of pegs and what not. That is unless you just want some crazy custom forward controls. If its just forwards you want, i.e. boards to pegs, this will work.

Cool, thanks! That sounds more like it. I'm assuming by P&A you mean H-D Parts and Accessories, right? He listed off some of the companies and their prices for these particular controls - it was a lot more than I was willing to pay.
brett, any truth to having to swap out the kickstand assembly with the same set-up as you mentioned?
Thanks!

You pretty much bleed them the same, I used a huge surenge and pushed it up from the caliper to the MC, then bled it back down from the lever. did that till I got no bubbles. no problems, no reset or dealer involved!
So I finally got her all sorted out and took it out for a ride. The new fork oil seriously helped out the ride and all the extra black parts added AT LEAST 25 hp
