I agree to go with the 07+ if you are set on the big tire. I looked at an 05 and could not come to an agreement with that dealer. Ended up saying screw it and bought a new one from a different dealer. Very pleased that I did. You will be too. It will cost you several thousand dollars to put a wide tire kit on an older model especially if you are paying someone else to do it!

I'm gonna disagree with everyone here.

I think the 200mm tire and wider fender look out of place on the bike.

I think the stock 6-speed is a noisy bucket of bolts that saps too much power.

The longer stroke of the 96" motor is nice, but you can't get it without getting the first two things.

If you ride a lot, fuel injection is the shiznit. You'll make more power more reliably and get better mileage. Stay clear of the earlier injected bikes (pre-2002) as they can be a pain to tune. Watch out for 2005s as they had leaking valve guide seals.

That said, I wouldn't trade my '05 for anything.

Default Night Trains are simple and awesome at the same time!

I've owned several bikes, both American and Foreign . . . I've had a 98 Fat Boy and currently have a 2006 Night Train and a 2003 Big Dog Chopper and the Harley softails are the most comfortable out there! Here are some things to consider:

• Carburators are cool if you like to tinker.
• The 200 mm tire is a plus if you're getting an 2006 or newer. (almost $3,000.00 if you pay someone to throw it in later)
• 2007 and newer comes with a 6 speed trans . . . preference 5 or 6?
• The 2007 has the 96 cubic inch engine.
• Less polishing on the Night Train as far as the engine goes, compared to other models.
• If you like to customize, many of the Night Train's parts are easily accessible and fairly easy to swap out.

Any way you slice it, the Night Train is a great choice!

add my +1 to the '07 and newer count.

I was looking at a couple older ones also, but finally decided on the 96", 6 speed (do alot of highway), FI, and 200mm.

Also, of course is that the newer models are, well, newer. Generally less miles and wear and tear.

Good luck. I'm sure you will stumble across "the one" and that will be all she wrote!

That's what what happened to me. I ended up with a very low mileage "08" and love it.

Just a wee bit of advice.
If you get the Train, STAY AWAY from the Nightrain picture thread(s).
'Cause once you go there, there's no turning back.
And all it takes is time, money, tools and talent (pick three).
I got a list a mile long, just need some time, money, tools and talent.
Enjoy, my friend!

SavannahBob nailed it! I love my train. Now I just need more money. I can see some apes in my future though. I love the look but the drag bars get a little more uncomfortable as I get a little bit older.

Definately saving for some apes. I like the burly narrow 14"s. Think I am going with them. +1 on being able to wash and ride and not waste hours polishing, cleaning, etc...

I just invested in a '08 Train. I moved up from a '05 883 sport. All I can say is that I should have traded long ago. Mine has a bit more chrome than most but I'm happy with it. I think it's a good balance between black and bling. In my opinion, one can't go wrong with a train. Good luck.
