Default Thundermax on a softal?

Ok, I have been reading about the Thundermax as customers have been requesting it. My bike is a 2002 without 02 sensors so auto tune is not really an option for my ride. Will this expensive tuner make my ride run better than my PCIII? It costs about 3 times that of a PC. But if it makes the bike run that much better it would be worth it to me. Let me know how you like this module.

So I gather taht since the thundermax is a whole new ECM it comes with the 02 sensors and I just need to plug them into my exhasut. Who has this and how do you like it? I think I am going to do this as I cannot do TTS with the auto tune for my 2002.

Okay, I got this figured out and understand after a little more reading. Just tell me if I should drop the cash on this item. I am tired of getting Dyno's.

Thundermax gets wicked reviews, other then some people having an issue with the dash and stuff going dead (simply stopping and shutting off the bike I am told will reset it and you're back in business)... Too bad the TTS won't work for you, it gets great reviews too, haven't ever read a bad one, and it is half the price. Since it is out, and with the cost of Dynos, I would have to say YOU WOULD BE CRAZY NOT TO BUY THE THUNDERMAX, lol... How's that?

Another question would be how often you change out your exhaust and air cleaner, etc. If you get bored easily and you're putting on a new exhaust every year or two, it can get very expensive very fast getting your bike tuned in. I am sure 95% of the guys on here running the Thundermax will give you thumbs up.

Another factor would be how much of that $700 chunk you will save with your dealer discount. If you're not a dealer yet, I would call them and try to get one for a huge discount while signing up as a dealer so you can promote it for them and increase sales. Just a thought...

Have read a lot about fuel management, wanting to do something one day also. Given that the TTS using the Vtune application is out unless you get an 05 or 06 ecu, guess Thundermax is a good option. Depending on your wallet, that $700 may be worth it. But... lol ... $700 could buy 95" kit, headwork... 95" with 203's, 26's... are very common builds and finding a PC map should be easy. One thing about the Thundermax, it removes the ION knock detection Delphi has. In other words, it does not retard the timing if pinging occurs.

I was thinking the same about the build. I figure that once I add the thundermax the build would be next. The new fatcats that are coming have the 02 sensor ports and all. It would seem almost pointless not to utilize them, although the price tag is rather hefty for the thundermax.

IMO , it's not worth the money , vs. the PC III/V . I am running it , and it works . It seems to be a dependable tool , but I just wouldn't pay the full asking price . I bought mine used , so at half price , it was worth it . I am not totally bashing it , but for the price , new ..... I say no .

Drew, if I didn't have the SERT already I would go for the T-Max, they are well worth the $$. A friend has one and just loves it, he has an SE Fatboy

I did some more reading bout this issue where they shut all the gauges off by themselves. A lot of people have had this issue. I am right back to square one. Who knows.

I put mine in with the intention of more engine mods down the road.
Thought it would be dumb to have to pay for the same thing over and over, like dyno's.
Setting up a TMax the first time can be a bit confusing, a lot of guys seem to get a bit confused by the instructions, myself included.
But once you do get the hang of it, its probably no worse than something like a TTS.
If it has a big advantage over other systems its that it seems to be a lot more tolerant of maps that are 'off' as the Autotune module will quickly try to reset things.
You just have to make sure that you do the update to rezero the base map with the learned offsets as often as needed to keep things running properly.
