Just picked up my first Harley (2001 Heritage Classic). Looking to swap out the tank and fenders for different color. Great instructions. Thank you!

Default '13 Heritage Tank Removal

I've been trying to do a lot of reading to prepare for installing the HD Boom Audio windshield speaker/amp kit. Just got a '13 Heritage Classic. I've removed the tank from touring bikes before without issue, but they don't have the fuel crossover. I've read that possibly HD was going to quit using the crossover after 2009 or 2010 on softtails, but I don't know if they ever did. I'm about the furthest thing from a mechanic, but I would like to learn.

I took a few photos of what I assume is the fuel line crossover underneath the tank in the front of the bike. My question is why does this need removed to take the tank off? Or does it need removed? It is free floating from one side to the other. I haven't seen an earlier model for comparison.

I have a service manual on order and I should be receiving it late this week or early next. Just thought I might be able to get a jumpstart on a supposedly easy install.

Thanks

If you're just trying to get to the electrical connections you might be able to just take the bolts out and slide the tank back far enough without removing the crossover line. I have a '09' and removed the tank but I think that might just work.

Careful you don't scratch your front rocker cover with those crimp-on crossover clamps. Ask me how I know...

OK. Suddenly a little light bulb went off in my head. You can't pull the tank off with the crossover line in place. Not sure why I didn't get it before. I'll probably try to install the wiring with just loosening the tank.

Default Great help - as always!

After researching and reading all the threads. I not only took the tank off my 11 Heritage, I did on wife's '05 deluxe.
Had to change GPS and J&M radio wiring. So easy without the tank :-)

The J&M radios have been nothing but trouble on the Deluxe since we bought it. Time to cut it loose. Hate to see the CB go, but, I can't stand the headache anymore.

Again, thanks for the help!!
