Just bought used 07 Springer Classic with Vance&Hines True Duals and K&N air filtre.
When I took away the seat I did not find any V&H Fuel Pack, PCIII or similar unit installed.
- How could I know if the bike has been reprogrammed/tuned ?
The bike rides well, but I thought it was necessary to put a new unit (sort of Fuel Pack or PCIII) when changing stock pipes and air filter.
Cant ask the previous owner as the bike has been imported from the US to Europe by a dealer.
From what i have seen it all depends on the bike and the person. I know people that put pipes and an air cleaner on their bike and did not reprogram it or put a tuner on it. There are other places they can put the programmer also, mine is under the mudflap behind the fender. Ive talked to stealerships about this a couple times, and they said if you do not remap the computer after you do the pipes and air cleaner later on down the road you will have top end problems. If i was you i would buy a tuner and have them download the map in it for you. On your bike its pretty simple to put in. Plug and play.
Its possible that the stock ECM was flashed by a dealer, or tuned with a SERT or TTS. Since its not under warranty anymore, you could ask a dealer to hook up to it and read the map info. They can tell if its the stock map.
yeah, if the person tuned it with a Screaming eagle race tuner/street tuner, it wouldnt be under there. Plugs in, interfaces, and then is removed. the previous owner probably has it on a shelf or in a drawer somewhere. I would ask if this is the case, and see if they would try to get it for you. It wont do him any good. The MOCO limits it, to 1 bike.
If it was tuned up at the dealership there should be a record of it. Call a dealer and give them the VIN and they should be able to tell you all service that was done on that bike.
if concerned then have a dyno run done for about $40 and you will see the AFR and the HP and TQ then you will know if it needs something. other than that if it aint broke dont fix it
When I put my V&H Short Shots and K&N filter, I was mystified as to why I was getting 20 mpg. Turns out the stealer who put it on didn't put a FuelPak on nor did they re-map... the stealer has since closed.
Took the bike to my custom guy- got a fuel management system- voila! Almost 200 miles per tank!
