Fallen Rider and a Friend
This email was from another friend and I just felt like sharing it...
Aloha family & friends,
This past weekend was a time to celebrate & honor all of the hard working mother's in the world & show our appreciation, but for me & many others it was a very sad day to say the least. I lost a very dear friend of mine due to a motorcycle accident. His name was Richard "Slick Rick" Ellis or some known him as Tattoo Rick. He was my brother, my mentor, & my best friend here on the island & for the short time that I did know him he became a very big part of my life & I miss him terribly. These words help get things off my chest & help preoccupy my mind, but will never be able to fully express the pain & emptiness I feel in my heart right now. If you decide to just delete this e-mail I understand, but I felt & needed to express my hurt & this world truly lost a great person, artist, father, husband, & friend! He touched alot of lives not only w/ the tattoo needle but touched their hearts as well w/ his good nature, attitude, & laid back outlook on life.
For those here in Hawai'i that may have seen it on the news Rick was the motorcyclist involved in that accident that happened Sunday afternoon (May 9th). He crashed into the front side of an SUV which reportedly killed him instantly. When I received the call that night I couldn't & didn't believe it happened until I returned home & saw the news & saw his bike. I still didn't want to believe it... it was to surreal. But, then the phone call came from Rachael (his wife) the next day & then there was no more denying it. I miss him with all my heart & still don't want to believe he's gone. But, to practice what I preach I always say "a person isn't truly gone until we forget about them". So, I will always remember him, keep him in conversations, & share his life & the happiness he brought into my life & to others.
"I miss you Rick & I know you left this world doing what you loved to do which was Ryde! I know everytime I head out you'll will be w/ me for the journey."
To those that drive; please when you head out each day to go to work or be on the rode keep this e-mail in your thoughts & remember motorcyclist don't have all the protection drivers have.
To all my brothers & sisters that ryde... I love you all & wish I could tell you that everyday in person. You are ALL in my thoughts each day & I only want & wish for the best for each & every one of you. Be safe, stay safe, & always be aware of your surroundings because these people in their 4-wheeled cages 90% of time ain't lookin' out for us so ride defensively...ALWAYS! Only a rider can fully understand what we deal w/ every time we get on those bikes. We know the risks & put our lives on the line each time we ryde... but rydin' is what we love to do & my brother Rick left this world doing just that! Thank you all for being a part of my life & listening.
Sincerely,
Allen "SLINGER" Stanley
"Rest In Peace bro' we miss you!"
