I bought my detachable windshield new with my bike 05 FXST 18K ago. Since then i have busted 5 of those damn clamps, My dealership has warrentied all of them. But the funniest part is last time the left one was broke so i took off my windshield and took in my bike and they replaced it. I never put my windshield back on and 10 days later( 900 miles) I went back in with another one broke and the tech said that they were both broke and i never even put on my windshield. It is nice that my dealership keeps replacing them but i would rather them not break. sooner or later they will complain about replacing them. frustrated. At first I thought they were over tightening them, so I loosened them and continually tightened them so my windshield would not pull them....they broke. They thought someone was malicously breaking them, I told them that the part was crap. Is there an aftermarket supplier for this bottom turn signal relocate/detachable windshield clamp? Ideas?
What clamp are you talking about? I can't see anything that resembles a clamp on mine.
Are you talking about the black plastic pucks that the shield slides into?
For my detachable windshield it utilizes a turn signal relocation kit (58350-96 For 41mm Forks Required for installation of Detachable Windshields on '84-'05 FXST, FXSTC, FXSTB, '93-'05 FXDWG, '80-'86 FXWG models. )
the clamps go around my 41mm fork tubes to hold my signal and provide the bottom anchor for the detachable windshield. The Deuce does require a different hardware kit it uses an 58397-00...but the clamp is very similar but does not hold the turn signal.
is this the clamp that looks like a band or hose type clamp?
i have a nighttrain and what i did on mine was to use the original turn signal mounts( that already clamp on the fork tubes) and machine .125 off of them and have a larger spacer made for the upper mount you will also need longer screws for the upper mounts and a set of mounts from a nighttrain they have worked for over 3000 miles so far and no ugly clamp to look at
if you can't understand what i am talking about then you probably dont have this problem, what i need to see is if others are breaking the bottom relocation clamps as well, harley part number 58350-96
The first one broke when I tightened it. The second done broke when I was re-installing the windshield. etc.
I've found that the suckers will break if they are not exactly perpendicular to the fork. If the clamp is the least bit out of alignment it will snap.
What I've been doing is loosening the clamp screw when removing the windshield. When replacing the windshield, leave the clamp loose, clamp it, check the alignment, then tighten the screw.
So far, no problems.
But to answer your original question, I've not found any other type clampor supplier that would fit.
