I cured the problem, as opposed to band-aiding it.
The stock riser/clamps are old chromed stock that have been powdercoated black.
The powdercoat has a low coefficient of friction, being smooth & glossyish.
The handlebars already have no paint in the "clamping zone" area.
They're knurled as well.
Therefore, the bars are ok...
Here's what I did to the risers:
I Dremel'd the **** out of the female mating surfaces (above & below).
Got all the black paint off, and got down past the chrome and
whatever other metal was anodized on there.. perhaps it is copper.
When all cleaned up, I went a step further and roughed perpendicularly to the Dremel's polishing direction,
therefore giving a side-to-side 'biting' surface.
Tightening the clamp bolts to the recommended 12-14 ft-lbs or whatever has been plenty...
These bars ain't moving anymore, because the low-friction problem has been eliminated.
ok , I used the advice from you guys ... and I did install the good n tites ...also scored up the risers with a punch ... so far so good ...I'll see when I put some miles on it . Thanks
Hi all ....just got back from a 400 mile journey... from Long Island , thru the f**d up roads of the bronx , then headed north to the mountains ...after that hit dirt and gravel roads to my destination ... No problems with bars slipping , and the risers are solid with the new gooden tites...
Thanks to all for the help !
