Default fuel management is lost on me

I'm running Rush slip-ons with an XiED hooked up. I'm looking to upgrade to a full exhaust soon. Probably BSS even though they've been done to death I like the look. In my search for a new exhaust I got to thinking that I still have the stock A/C on. My full Harley taxes have not been paid.
That reminded me that I know nothing about fuel management. Is this something that is really needed and if so what are the benefits? Will I need my XiED after hooking one up? Which do I choose? Power Commander's site said it excludes Heritage and Deluxe, and Fuelpaks site is broken.

Please educate the noob.

If you're not doing any motor mods like cams or head work then the V&H Fuel Pak will be a good addition to the XiEDs. If you're planning on motor mods then there are several tuners that will handle the job. SEST, Thundermax with auto tune, Power Commander with various numbers, TTS. There's a lot to read in the tuner forum.

Cool thanks man. I'm not planning any major mods any time in the near future. Just want a better sound than the slip-ons are giving me and figured I'd open up her lungs a little bit at the same time. I appreciate the tips.

I also recommend the FuelPak. I put one on my new Fat Boy Lo this weekend along with the Heavy Breather. You definetly need some fuel management when you change out the air and the FuelPak is the easiest to install. It's plug and play.

You can order it directly from V&H and get a discount or use the DR. (I think he can get it?). It was $252 directly from V&H. You'll be a lot happier with your bike the minute after you install it.

If you want to cool it down and get more performance out of your bike after the A/C and Pipes , yes you need a fuel management system.

The Fuel Pak and the PC are the easiest to install, plug and play.

I have a few friends that have used the Fuelpak and all was OK, but the Fuel pak is very limited. The way its set up there is no way to know what the settings are doing and it does not have the ability to make any timing changes. So you are at the mercy of V & H for all settings. With the PC it can be tuned by any tuning center with a dyno, you can do it yourself with the free software or buy it from Fuel Moto and they will set it up with the right MAP and lifetime support for any changes you do in the future. We swapped out a 2005 Fatboy like mine from a Fuelpak to a Fuel Moto PC (it is the Power Commander made for Fuel Moto) and it made a big difference in "seat of pants" performance and the engine temp went down.

For the same $ Id go with a PC from Fuel Moto in the event that you do more in the future you wont have to pay again.

Also with the fuel pak you are not making any changes to the closed loop portion of your ECM (from idle to about 1/4 throttle) because the ecm is in control. With the PC and O2 Sensors bypassed you are able to alter the MAP from idle to full throttle.

Call Jamie at Fuel Moto or at least go on thier site and read the info on the HD Fuel Injection and how it works ect.
