Got 2005 fatboy. The postive post on the battery somehow came in contact with the oil tank which is rubber mounted so it went to ground thru the return line.It burned into where the little braded area is and lost most of the oil which was pumped out onto the bike.lucky for me I was not going down the road but had just fired the bike up and had only gone about 100 feet and noticed it.I replaced oil line, cleaned up mess and did some insulating with some red rubber gasket material and double sided tape.
It was a recall on the 07's becasue the Positive battery cable was getting abraided on a rough edge on the top of the tank causing it to short out through the braided oil lines.
They rerouted the cables and put a rubber/plastic piece in between the tank and the battery terminals.
A couple of bikes owned by guys here had the lines burn up and very nearly had their bikes go up in flames under them while they were riding.
It was not very funny and a lot of guys, myself included, got real careful with it until the dealers fixed them, glad you caught it in time to stop the bike from going up in smoke.
If I remember right all 07's made before mid November of 06 got recalled for it.
All bikes made after that time had the "fix" installed during production.
I remember the dealers were frantic to get the kits and install them as fast as possible.
I think they were really worried that someone was going to get seriously hurt from it.
Thanks for the info , seams like HD should have gone back a few more year models on the recall and do a better job of letting things like this be known.
