Does anyone know what model Sundowner will fit on my 2006 FLSTSC?
Had an interesting fruitless exchange with the dealer the other day where a guy seemed miffed that I actually wanted put the seat on the bike and make sure it fit versus just listening to him, paying and driving home with it.
It didn't fit.
It was supposedly the Fat Boy Sundowner that fits the FLSTSC. But when you put it on the bike and use your stock pillion mounting bracket per the included instructions sheet, the bracket ends up about an inch or two short of the fender hole for it.
I noticed that the listings for the Fat Boy Sundowner in the 2006 and 2007 catalog are different with different widths mentioned. The dealer wouldn't order me the 2007 as he said the fitment would be the same and he doesn't want to get stuck with extra stock.
Anyway... didn't spend $265 that day, but would have really liked a comfy two-up seat option for my ride this past weekend.
The one for a Deluxe FLSTN will fit but it has notches for a fender rack. Look on Mustang seats web site and you can buy a longer bracket for the back of the seat that will let any softail seat work.
Yeah, I'm not quite sure about this specific model number. It came right off the wall and I mentioned something about buying the display model and he said they only stock 1 seat at a time in-house. I dunno... I'm kind of glad it didn't fit because the purchase felt shady all the way around anyway.
The 51570-00A is the "Fat BoyŽ Sundowner⢠Deep Bucket Seat" that "Fits '00-later FLST, FLSTC and FLSTSC, '00-'06 FLSTF. '00-'05 FX SoftailŽ (except FXSTD)."
The 51764-06 is the "Sundowner⢠Bucket Seat" that "Fits '00-later FLST, FLSTC and FLSTSC, '00-'06 FLSTF, and '00-05 FX SoftailŽ models (except FXSTD)."
I believe those are the 2007 Catalog numbers and the part they had in-store was something from the 2006 line.
I would assume either of those would work. I'd probably go with the deep bucket. I was going to order the 51570-00A but that's when the schmoe at the dealer said he wouldn't order it for me as it wouldn't fit either... even though it clearly states it does.
Whatever I go with, I think I'll be making the purchase elsewhere.
You are correct. In the 2006 Catalog the Fat Boy Sundowner Deep Bucket Seat (51570-00) states that FLST and FLSTSC models require separate purchase of Seat Bracket P/N 51799-06.
The 2007 Catalog entry for the Fat Boy Sundowner Deep Bucket Seat (51570-00A) makes no mention of needing this bracket.
I pointed this out to the guy at the dealer who refused to order the seat for me saying the fitment would be the same.
Seems to me the guy is simply doing his best to get rid of his old stock.
