Go with the 103, S&S 106, or a 107 kit. Heads and cam choice will play a big part in what kind of HP/TQ you produce and where. Also you'll need to find a good tuner in your area. Think about a clutch upgrade and if it were me, I'd also check the runout on your crank.

Im getting my info from a harley tech. The stoke and jugg size on the 96" motors differ from the 88". Thats what ive been told. On a 88 to hit a 103 you would have to change the crank and then some, but a 97 has the same crank, bore and stroke you just need to get shorter pistons, they have them in the screamin eagle catalog.

No crank change. 3-7/8" bore jugs and matching pistons. Changes an 88 to a 95 or a 96 to a 103. Crank comes in when you want to jump to 110 (if your using Harley Parts). I think you can get more then 103" without changing the crank if you go to S&S.
