Default Nightrain vs. FXST Custom?

Planning on selling my Road King Custom, want a softail. How comfortable do these softails ride, for a long day trip, and any real difference in ride / handling between the Nightrain and FXST Custom?

Just none at my local dealer to test ride.

Thanks.

I'm very comfortable on my Softail. The wife and I take overnight trips all the time...3-400 mile days. However I have changed my seat and shocks. I have a Mustang Touring seat that i can ride all day in. And I changed out the OE shocks and put on Progessive 422's. I've never ridden a NT so I can't comment. But my bike is just like the Customs without the bling.

As far as I know, the FXST,FXSTB & FXSTC all have the exact same suspension. My train is stiff but it's slammed 2-1/2 inches. Still, I'll take rides with my friends for 150+ miles and am still comfortable.

I gotta NT and my best friend rides a custom. I took mine down to PCB from chattanooga TN on stock set up except handlebars (Street Slammers) with no problems, unpacked and went out for more. He rides his to mississippi regularly and same thing stock set up minus bars same as mine. Really you just need to decide you want black or chrome.

Night Train and Custom are the exact same bike with some differences in fit and finish. They'll both ride/perform the same. The only differences are going to be in the seat and the handlebars.

Night Train comes with a badlander seat. It's OK. I can ride the interstate for about an hour and half before I need a quick 5 minute break. Then back on for another go round. If I'm riding local roads and making stops here and there I can ride all day comfortably. Custom comes with what appears to be a more comfortable seat, especially for a passenger. I wouldn't know though, having never sat on a Custom.

Night Train comes with drag bars. The drag bar set up is perfect for me. Right height, distance, width. Some shorter forum members sometimes complain of the stock drag bars causing some discomfort because they are too far of a reach or too narrow. Custom comes with some mini-apes that many people find quite comfortable (again, based on what I read here, as i've never sat on a Custom).

So... do you like wrinkle black or chrome? Answer yourself that question then change what you need to make it fit you.

Well, the question is very subjective to the rider. How tall, weight, leg length, arm length etc. I love my stock 2010 FXSTC but I am 6-2, 230 Lbs with long legs and arms. Very confortable up to 175 miles, then I fill up the gas tank and take a break. Works for me. I will probably swap the shocks with progressive's and change the seat to a mustang with higher back rest for the wife's ride, and a safer one for the kids. Solo, for me it is great stock.

Everyone is different..

Yeah, my next change on the bike is either handlebars that reach back or some pullback risers. I just don't seem to be able to find any pullback risers for an 09 Night Train.

What's your preference, chrome or blacked out? Same bike, different aesthetics. As mentioned above, the handlebars and seat are the main differences in comfort, and an aftermarket seat will be much more comfortable.

Blacked out. Got any resources with parts that fit an 09 Night Train?
