Default Just bought my first HD

After 20 years of riding sport bikes, I finally grew up and bought my first Harley.
Its a 2009 Fatboy <300 miles on it

I pick it up tomorrow... Its gonna be a nice Father's Day weekend!!

Anyway...I know you'll probably tell me to just search...but its just a quick question..
For now the only thing I plan on doing is changing out the pipes. I am buying a set of Vance & Hines Big Radius pipes.
Will I need to have the bike tuned to the new pipes?
Assuming so...is this something I can do myself by purchasing a modified ECU or tuner for my stock ECU? Or do I need to take it to a shop?

Thanks...

Congrats and welcome. You will not be disappointed. You usually don't have to worry about a tune unless you do both pipes and intake. Then it's a good idea to get it done.

Congrats!

You can do pipes no problem. Add any more incoming air and you'll need fuel mgmt. You can buy aftermarket and do it yourself. air/pipes/fuel mgmt all installed by you is probably a 2-3 on a scale of 10 if you're at all mechanically inclined, have a service manual, and some decent tools.

We're here to help and there are a bazillion threads w/ pics when you search.

Good luck!

congratz to the bike, the growing up and welcome to the family.

regarding tune up with just pipes, no worries, if all you change is the pipes there is nothing else that you need to do. Only once up upgrade your air cleaner will you need to do something

What color is the bike?

Do yourself a favor and do pipes, a/c, and fuel mgt at the same time.
(Look at fuelmotousa.com jamie can get you a Power commander V set for your bike for about 300 bucks and then you can do everything yourself)

Congrats and welcome to the softail family

Congrats. I think you'll enjoy slowing down and enjoying the scenery a little. Riding a V-twin keeps me out of trouble.
