I did my own. With all of the bad experiences that have been told I figured if I did it myself it would be done correctly. They say to check all the critical fasteners so I took my time and started at the front and worked my way to the rear and checked all the fasteners on the entire bike.
Then I checked and tightened any spokes that were loose. It seems that many dealers don't check for loose spokes and guys have destroyed hubs because of it.
Do you think a harley mechanic is going to care about your ride more than you?
also i was going to switch everything over to synthic oil too. do most people do this at 1000 mile service or wait longer?
the big services should be done by harley for warrenty purposes..noy that you cant do them just be harder to warrenty if you dont have full documentation..i do my own oil changes and most stuff between services cheaper and no one is the wiser..as for synrthetic oils only in primary and transmission..wait sporty do the share oil cant remember..anyway..engine oil should be dino oil..imo as oil is oil and it gets dirty just as fast and its the carbon deposits and other dirt in your oil thats causes bearing failure not the oil breaking down..so save your cash and do frequent oil changes and your engine will last for ever well almost..lol
yeah i'm pretty sure a sporty only has engine and trans/primary oil (only 2 holes not 3) i run syn in all of my cars and bike. other sheep i agree with you 110%. "Do you think a harley mechanic is going to care about your ride more than you?" if you think harley is going to do a better job than you take it to them. but i'm really **** when it comes to the care of my stuff so i'm sure that i'm going to do a better job than they are.
