I have an 05 Deuce that has an 88 inch fuel injected motor. Lately it will pop or back fire when I go through the gears and rev it past 3k or 3500 rpm. I am not holding it at this rpm for long, I will call it a fast acceleration or casual racing. I guess I don't know why it is popping. If i just rev it to 2500 it won't. I would think the EFI and computer should adjust itself to the conditions. I live in IL and the temps are 80-95 right now. Anyone experience the same thing or should I take it in and dyno'd at my local HD shop?
Do you have an EFI controller like a PC3 or SERT? If so it may have lost it's map. If not you may need to clean or replace your air filter. The popping and back fires are caused by detonation. If it is too severe the engines anti-ping sensor may not be able to stop it. I had similar problems with the V&H FuelPak.
Do you have the baffles installed in your pipes? I have the same ones on mine and without the baffles, it pops like a *****, but my bottom pipe has drug on the ground too many times and is too ovaled out to get them back in... so it pops...still.
Sounds like you need a tune. I would suggest staying away from the Fuelpak, I just had my motor dyno'd and they did a road test with the FP, it only effected my AFR by 1% and I was running at 17% lean (backfire and popping). Running our engines this lean can be damaging to the valves not to mention the engine overheating. More fuel = cooler running engine. If I were you, get the SERT/SEST from your dealer and get it on a dyno, you wanna be at 12-13% while your gunning it and about 14% while cruising. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all of the replies, sorry it was a while sense I was last on here. I cleaned my K&N air filter and it seemed to help, but the problem is my air ride SUCKS and it will not fill now, so I haven't had a chance to test it out. I have always had a problem with it holding air, I tightened a few fittings, now it won't even charge up. The compressor will run, just won't fill the shocks. I have the platinum bleed and feed system. I just have the instructions which also don't give a whole lot of info. Anyone know if they make a rebuild kit? I am really lost here. I love air ride, but I have had the worst luck with it. Perfect riding weather here too!!
Thanks,
