i think you can check at night in the dark and use a black light and see the place the fumes come from. it it is the gas cap then get a new one and if there were fumes there is an over flow at the front of the tank and be sure the hose has not come off

NOT GOOD . . . you need to find the leak . . . .it doesn't have to be much of a leak to generate a lot of smell . . . but a leak is a leak and ya gotta fix it . . . putting out a fire on a bike while riding down the road or just trying to pull over so you can watch you bike immolate itself is no fun.

On my 2002 Fatboy Fuel Injected, I had a leak in the gasket that goes between the top plate (under console) and the gas tank (10 bolts). Didn't get it soon enough and clearcoat started to peel from fumes getting under it. Replaced gasket and all is better. Note: Replace the 10 mounting bolts as they have a nylon collar and are NOT reusable.
