Progressive drop in spring kit question
Looking into installing the progressive drop in front fork springs today(kit # 10-2003) on my deluxe.Looks easy but the directions with the PCV spacer are unclear.They say to cut the spacer at 3". Okay cool but how much of a drop does that give you.I am looking to go the full 2 ".It also says dont go 1" more or .50 " shorter than the recommended 3 ".Will this lower it more if you do or maybe just change the preload? The reason that they dont want you to go more than 3" is spring preload. The big problem with the Drop In Kit is soft , soggy fork rebound. The more you lower it the less preload to the springs and the softer your ride and rebound are. Cutting more will lower the bike more but your spring preload will get progressivly softer.
If you call the tech line for progressive the guy I talked to still reccommends the original kit to lower, it will give you a true 1 or 2 inch drop and you can properly preload your spring tension to you riding style and weight. Also the original kit is less $ 89.00 from Eastern Cycles on E Bay and with a FL Softail you need to at least loosen the fork legs to slide them down so its not much more to remove the sliders and do the whole job.

my 422's If you call them in person they always seem to do a little better than ebay.
