I've been looking at the Fatboy Lo and no that I've seen the white and silver in person, I've decided that that bike has to be black, but which black....denim or vivid? They both look so good, that when I buy in the next couple of weeks, I may just have to flip a coin!
The only 2 issues I have with the denim is I'm not sure how you take care of it and if you get any sort of scratch on it, thats it.....you can't buff it out!
I had a vivid black road king and my crossbones is denim. They both have their pros and cons. When clean and waxed the vivid is sexy, but it shows every little spider web in the paint when the sun hits it. It seemed like no matter what kind of cloth I used, (micro-fiber, cotton, whatever) if I tried to just wipe it down, I had to hit it with at least a spray wax. The denim does not show this so much, I just wipe it down with a MF cloth and Harley Gloss or glass cleaner. The draw back is like you said, if it does get a scratch, there's no getting it out. I have a spot on my tank about the size of my pinkie nail that is a bunch of light "squiggly" scratches. Looks like a rock kicked off the inside of my leg and into the tank. It drives me crazy, but you can't even always see it.
The denim will wear differently over time and won't look uniform. You'll get patches of slightly polished areas where your legs rub the tank occasionally for example. It's not a bad thing, just adds character.

That was my other question! I was wondering if the denim would become vivid in certain areas.
I don't have a denim paint job, but from I understand, it can be difficult to get gas stains out of the denim paint. That having been said...IMHO...I think the denim doesn't quite look finished. But that's just my opinion.
As previously stated, the denim WILL wear over time. Especially if your legs touch the tank. Polished spots will appear, and preventing this from happening isn't going to happen. It may add character, but I like my bike to look fantastic now and still be that way in five years. I love the denim paint scheme, but only see it fit for those who already have in mind a new paint job when the denim wears.
