Question Mobil 1 Trifecta: Whatcha think? (UPDATE)

It's oil change time and I'm looking to try something.... well... new. My choices around here are quite limited unless I want to go with H-D lubes in all three holes. However... I've found a couple auto parts stores that DO carry the Mobil 1 line of oils. Research here has led to these choices...

Engine: Mobil 1 V-Twin, 20w50
Trans: Mobil 1 Syn. Gear Oil, 75w140
Primary: Mobil 1, 20w50

For the primary, I was unable to find any indication if this 20w50 is the "V-Twin" labeled oil or just the "regular" stuff. Guidence here would be appreciated.

When I picked up my 2005 Softail, it had the Syn3 in it. Since it was "pre-owned", I changed all the fliuds and went back to the regular H-D dino oil. And been doing it that way every since.

My goal for changing to all synthetic is to hopefully quiet the engine/primary down a bit and to drop the operating temps a shade. I was going to order the "kit" from Redline, but need to get this done before the weekend. Thus, I'm kind of stuck to local stores.

- Am I on the right track?
- Does the primary lube need to be the "V-Twin" labeled oil?
- Should I forget the Mobil 1 change and just stick with H-D oils?
- What do you think?

Thanks...

I've used the Mobil 1 synthetics in all of my bikes for years and have been very happy with it.

I use B&M Trick Shift in my primary and like it better than any oil I've ever put in. But the primary is a very simple machine and almost any oil is going to do the job. You can go from the cheapest bottle of oil to the most expensive syn and you probably won't notice too much difference. If you plan on sticking with mobil syn then any of the car oils will be ok in the primary.

Just put Belray 85W140 in my tranny today. Shifts better and neutral is easier to find. It's not synthetic though. Like the idea of Moble One in all holes. I'd go for it.

Redline or Belray were my first choices.... Too bad I don't have a any stocking dealers close by. Even for the mobil 1 oils, I'll need to make a 60 mile plus round to pick them up.

Living it the sticks has it's bennies... But not in this case. LOL!!

Yea, I'm originally from West Virginia. Know what you mean but I'm going back up there in a week or so for some good rides with some good friends.

You can order any of the oils that you might want. On my last oil change I ordered directly from Redline. Some places might not even charge shipping and handling.

Stick with dino. That's what you've been using. Your noise level will most likely increase and the temps will probably not be affected that much. Also, since you've been using dino there's always the possibility of leaks developing...(happend to me...) Here's my take:
1: Stick with dino in engine (HD 360 or any other name brand 20w/50) 3 quarts oil and one quart Lucas oil stabilizer in the hot summer months. For Winter: - use 4 quarts dino or only 1/2 quart Lucas.
2. Primary: Use Type F ATF (works great) or just any dino 10w/40 oil or Rotella T 15/40.
3. Tranny: Use 75/140 dino gear oil (any brand)

Yep... Ordering my oils would have been an option, but I "dropped he ball" on that one. Way to much on my plate right now and completely spaced it out when I still had time to order. Now I just gotta "git-r-done" with what I can obtain "locally".

Question about my choice for the trans....

Would the 75w90 be a better choice?

I've used Mobil 1 in all my Harleys since 1982 (4). I believe you have the right combination of lubes and are what I use 'cept for the 20-50. I use Mobil 1 V-twin in the primary as well as the engine.
