Hey all I am on the market to pick up a Lo, but I can't seem to get straight answers from any dealers on the differences between the model years. Every dealer that has one in stock says that their model year is hands down the better model year (which makes me believe that they just want to make a sale instead of being honest) so I come to you for the 2010 vs 2011 comparison. So far the biggest stumbling block is the difference between the counter-balanced engine vs non. Again every dealer says theirs rides smoother than the other model year ><. So far the only real gripe against the counterbalanced engine seems to be a perceived loss of power due to the extra rotating mass. Can anyone chart out the specific differences as I am about ready to take the plunge.
Also... I have a hard one for those V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 "curves", but have heard conflicting reports of no to serious dragging. Would like to see some more personal experiences with this (Dave yours look to be lower to the ground than most peoples')
They do offer ABS with the 2011's. That may be a selling point for that year. But if you don't care for ABS.. then the color choices is really the only difference for the Fat Boy Lo. Those 2-2 pipes are nice. Don't know if they'll scrape...but I do know that they're loud. Louder than most.
I am not sure if I read your question correctly but both years of fatboy Lo come with the 96B (balanced) engine. I think others are correct and paint seems to be the difference, although the specs list the '10 as 0.25 lbs heavier
Hmm...this one dealer that had a 2011 in stock was telling me that it had the non counter-balanced motor with the rubber mounting instead of being a hard mounted CB motor... just looked up the 2011 specs and you're right. 96B motor. Salesman also told me wider tires and lots of other upgrades... beginning to sound more like this particular guy was selling snake oil, not Harleys.
They have the option of the white denim color, but the biggest difference is the rewiring they've done. All this means is that they've wired the odometer/clock, etc. switch up into the handlebars and works off the horn which is now a toggle switch. They've also added a tachometer into the readout. There's the ABS, but that's optional. Other than that, they're pretty much identical. I checked one out at the dealer a couple days ago.
Unless the price is crazy different, I would go with the one that has the options. Good luck.
I have ordered the 2011 and the only difference is the paint color and the security and ABS add on. My bike comes with out both. And my delivery date is a month ahead. I figure that since the 2010 dosen't have ABS that was good to go for 2010. I am also looking at a brake lock instead of the security system if they really want it, it will be gone. But remember it wieghs 730 Lbs.
I can't say much about the difference in models but HD tends to not change thing up too much between years other than colors. About the 2-2 pipes. I have the big radius 2 into 2 which I think you are referring to. I've never scraped them once and I have my rocker riding on the bump stops (as low as it'll go). Granted I do have scrapers in my footpegs which I hit quite a bit that probably prevent me from doing this. I've been told by guys riding behind me how they dont see how my pipes don't hit cause when I lean right they look like they're on the pavement, but no scrapes...never have.

I don't know... If I had the choice of getting the ABS when I bought mine 3 months ago...I'd have gotten it. But I'm plenty happy with my purchase as is.
