Default WTF?.... Bad bearings....

I've got an 08 CrossBones... and I've had to change rear wheel bearings twice in 13k+ miles.

Any one else have a similar problem?

Nope, I haven't. I've got 12,000 miles on it.

Not me (yet, at least) but I've seen a handful of wheel bearing threads popping up here lately.

I have read numerous posts about new bearings coming with little to no grease in them...most people are removing the seals and adding grease, and reinstalling the seals, before installing them. If that is not the culprit...the next logical suspect is the spacer between the bearings...if it is too short it will take out the bearings in no time

my back ones have 57k and are fine. the front was changed 3 times and the last time they checked and found the rim was cut wrong and pinched the bearings. i have 10k on the replacements and the wheel spins forever on a lift with the brake removed. it never did that before the rim was replaced. it was fixed out of warranty because it was replaced 2 times in warranty and should have been caught.

Cheap imports, just like the cheap Malaysia light bulbs they are using. Had one burn out at 200 miles.

Well I got with the service department and they replaced the bearings though the bike was out of warranty by less than two months. I am quite the opposite of you... they replaced the wheel the first time but the bearings failed again. They offered no idea as to what or why it is happening.

I asked about checking the frame but they said they had no specs to check it by. So I guess I will have this to look forward to every six thousand miles or so.

Though moco wouldn't do anything about it, at least the dealer stepped up and did the right thing... hell they even put a new set of brake pads on the rear at no charge. I thank them for that.

The reason these bearings continue to fail on some bikes is probably because the inner spacer is the wrong size, which results in a cross load of the bearing.

Moco had the dealer check the spacer and bearings installed and they found the spacer had 1/4 in gap. the spacer was measured and was the correct size. they said the rim was not cut deep enough so it left a gap that caused the center of the bearing to be pushed inward. the new rim had a 1/1000 gap and within specs. Moco had it replaced after i told them they put my life in danger and i would sue them. it was too bad it had to go that far but they did fix it after that.
