I'm the same way. I want a show bike that I can ride. Nothing has happened to mine yet and I have ridden 4000 miles since the end of April. Would be more If I had more time. It has still never been in the rain! Been lucky there. Sounds like you are starting the process of letting go. When I get the first ding I will then have to go where you are now going. I don't want to either but I LOVE RIDING the darn thing too much to worry about what might happen! Glad there are others out there like me.

Without being to Dr. Phil. Do you have an anxiety disorder?

I do! For example;

My almost five year old car smells brand new and has only 42000 miles on it. I get requests from people I work with to purchase it all the time. No food in it and I always park in position to minimize door dings. Have two dings and one I did myself

A Ford Mustang I traded in was bought before I left with my new vehicle!! Two other vehicles I owned were also purchased by the first person.

My last motorcycle 2005 XL1200C was bought by the first person I showed it to.

My new bike a 2006 FXSTI is my new nightmare. Road debris, scratches, and chips.

I even stress about caring a passenger and thats why I bought a big twin. And does everyone I show my new bike have to touch it?

I try to keep these items so perfect I don't enjoy them much and don't have energy to keep my place the same as my vehicles.

I've got over 12K on my 05 Heritage Classic now. I have dropped a small wrench on the fuel tank near the front and chipped it. Touched it up with black paint. I have a scratch on the rear fender from the seat bolt (that seems to be a common occurance). I have a small chip on the front fender from a rock. I have some minor dings on the windshield and I have some minor scratches in a few places but not one dent anywhere .......... until yesterday.

I was rolling back out of a tight spot and began to swing around to the right. Just about that time my left rear turnsignal banged into a truck bumper. That was about the dumbest thing I have ever done with the engine off! The truck bumper is OK but it bent the hell out of the fender. What a DUMB A$$ move. I just wanted to PUKE!!! I buckled the fender behind the saddlebag big time and there was only about 1/4" between the turn signal and the saddlebag. I took the bag off and the paint has cracked and was already starting to flake off. I took a rubber mallet and beat the damn thing back into position but there is still a little dent where the light bar attaches to the fender. You really don't notice the slight offset of the light bar, but I JUST CAN'T STAND IT ! ! ! ! I ordered a new factory painted Black and Lava Red fender. Damn thing costs $405.00 plus tax. I'll change it out myself and try not to scratch it!

So if all you have is a few dings and minor scratches just run with it. Dings and scratches are an everyday thing with any motor vehicle, coffee table or anything that isn't made of titanium.

(I still can't belive it did that)

man im having some bad problems , or so i think , had a couple of things wrong with bike , cables ,chrome scratched etc... dealer took care of it all of course , had a rock fly up and hit my tank, put a chip in it , i had it painted , the whole tank ,and front fender due to a small scratch, now i just seen like 4 tiny white dots on front fender, real tiny , 1 on tank in front , lil specs ,look like buffing compound but wont come off, since ive owned this bike ive done nothing but nitpick all of it , and its killing me , stressing me out bad, is anyone else out there like me? i know this is a bad demon to have , its making me a bear to even be around , and well the dealer im sure hates me by now, 2000 miles on my bike , deep down i should be happy just to be able to have one , not act like a idiot, but seems like everytime i ride i see something new , how do i cope or get past this guys , someone has to be the same way i hope? is it just my new bike that has this luck , all my buds say look at others bikes , but i just look at them from feet away all is good ... when its yours ya see everything?.............. serenity now.......
I have a different sort of pickyness; 100+ words in a sentence with no period--lord a mighty, Finish your thoughts, take deep breaths, enjoy the ride. If you want to stress about something, make it important. Are you familiar with the serenity prayer? The reason I say this is because you sound like me when I was a lot younger. I was a step away from either ulcers, an heart blow-out or something similar. I'm not suggesting you can't stress out--what I'm saying is don't treat incident in life like they have the same priority. Life will be so much sweeter~~

As soon as I noticed a scratch on my bike, I just said oh well, it's not gonna be perfect. After all, I bought it to ride, not to stare at. But I do understand your feelings.

You pretty much have to decide whether you want the bike to be perfect or whether you want to enjoy riding it. It's too much work and too expensive to have both. You have to remember, it is just a motorcycle, a really fine one, yes, but still just a motorcycle. Push come to shove, it can be replaced. Just get on it and ride it, that is what it was designed for and that is what it does best. Enjoy it. If it gets another scratch, so what, it is still the same great machine and the ride is the same thrill.

Enjoy your machine. You own it, it does not own you.

A few weeks ago, I was putting my passenger pilion back on. There is one flat-head screw that holds down the back part of the pilion to the rear fender. While I was tightening it up, the screwdriver slipped and gouged the rear fender. I WAS HOT!!!! Only had myself to blame. I've gotten over it and I still notice the scratch, but it does not bother me as much.
I did the same thing to mine in the first week man what a drag
