Nothing wrong with that. You take pride in your ride and want it to look the best you can. Me, I'm the same way. I spend hours cleaning my bike, but believe me when my *** is on that bike I have no mercy. I love my babies to look as good as they ride.
Dude you will get some scratches, Those are war ribbons!!! If you just relax less sh*t will happen to you. Its the same old crap, the thing that you fear most is what dogs you.

man im having some bad problems , or so i think , had a couple of things wrong with bike , cables ,chrome scratched etc... dealer took care of it all of course , had a rock fly up and hit my tank, put a chip in it , i had it painted , the whole tank ,and front fender due to a small scratch, now i just seen like 4 tiny white dots on front fender, real tiny , 1 on tank in front , lil specs ,look like buffing compound but wont come off, since ive owned this bike ive done nothing but nitpick all of it , and its killing me , stressing me out bad, is anyone else out there like me? i know this is a bad demon to have , its making me a bear to even be around , and well the dealer im sure hates me by now, 2000 miles on my bike , deep down i should be happy just to be able to have one , not act like a idiot, but seems like everytime i ride i see something new , how do i cope or get past this guys , someone has to be the same way i hope? is it just my new bike that has this luck , all my buds say look at others bikes , but i just look at them from feet away all is good ... when its yours ya see everything?.............. serenity now.......
I guess I have the opposite problem. I got my 2006 FXSTI on 8/30/06 and have not washed it yet. I've pulled off the obvious stickers, but I've been to busy riding it to wash it. I've put just over 400 miles on it so far. I plan on washing it tomorrow, but I think it's supposed to rain so I'll have to see. I love the bike, but I'm not going to obsess over it, otherwise I don't think I'll enjoy it as much. Just ride it and enjoy.
Damn I can surely sympathize with you!! My girlfriend tends to snicker when I go back (repeatedly) to get that one last spot/smear/fingerprint that I notice walking away from it, 'ya know, as if to say "OMG, it's not that important". What does she know? [sm=Awwww.gif] Anyway, I try REALLY hard to explain that it's brand new (350 mi) and I didn't pay all that $$$$$ to have it look like crap!! Now, I can calmy write in this post that the bike is for riding and we shouldn't worry about these little things. Of course, I haven't picked up my first ding/dent/scratch......yet!! I know it's going to happen, but I'm trying my best to convince my gray matter that maybe it won't. When it does happen, (and maybe it won't - really), I'll be the first to turn to ya'll for some consoling.....In the meantime, my ****-ness and pickyness gives me needed opportunities for bonding with my beer...[sm=burnout.gif]
They are made to ride....and also made to clean. You can have the best of both worlds. Learn to fix the scratches so you do not obsess about it....then ride the heck out of it. I do not worry about scratching paint since I taught myself to touch it up sand it out and buff it. Anyone can to it with a minimum investment and it will stop you from worrying. Chrome needs a protective coating of road grime, only clean it if your taking it to a show
Warg, are those Vance and Hines short shot staggereds you have on that fatboy? Do you like them? If you had it to do over again would you choose the same exhaust?
Well, I just bought a nice clean 02 Heritage, 7800 miles, the guy had "cleaned" it up for me, when i first saw it, he hadn't cleaned it up, it was just dusty. the next day, he had cleaned it up, it looked pretty nice, but, me being me, I CLEANED IT MY WAY. Starting at the top and working down with polish, then, wax i've polished and waxed every inch of the bike i could get to, including the bottom of the frame and shocks, don't laugh, i enjoy doing it. Maybe being a Former Marine explains it a little. But, this baby is NICE now, and just tonight i went out and put a coat of Turtle blue colored wax on the tank and front fender. It brings out the color[to me] and fills and colors any little chips or scratches. I also use a small dust mop to keep it wiped down prior to putting a cover on it during non riding times.
I've got a good sized collection of DVD's of various rock bands in concert, some of the finest guitarist in the world,no matter how wealthy they are...... play some of the most chiped, dinged, beat to hell guitars with finishes worn down to bare wood you're likely to see. They still keep playing 'em because they play so sweet, smooth as butter...everything's all dialed in.
The guys playing in cover bands no one's ever heard of....... in a lounge at the local Holiday Inn probably play on much nicer guitars in like-new condition....
See a pattern ?
I think that happens with relationships too....I've come to learn that true love means that you love someone so much that you're practically blind to whatever flaws they may have.
That said,I'm still a picky SOB about my toyzzz....especially when my toy's a brand new toy, just picked up a new scoot this past Saturday and I will be paranoid for quite a while......
I'm real late to the game here...but this is a real soothing comforting thread to me.......got my first nasty rock chip yesterday on my bottom lip of my rear fender on my fatboy.....500 miles...jesus...........reading all this made me feel better, not sure if anyone will ever ss this since this thread is so old....but I had to express this.....500 freaking miles...........huh.......I touched it up but my eye can pick it out from a mile away........
My 'Train has scratches all over it (not horrible, but they're there...). The nice thing about having a black/pewter/ muted bike is that scratches and little dings actually make it look cooler... at least that's what I think.
