Default What Do You Do w/Your Passing Lights

So I recently acquired a Heritage and I'm hard pressed to figure out what/when I am supposed to use the passing lights. You can't even turn them on without reaching down for that switch, seems dangerous to me. Plus they are only on with low beams.

So help me out here. let me know when/how you use them; or do you never turn them on. thanks.

Always on. You can also wire them to stay on with the brights. There is a thread that explains it around here somewhere. The more light you put out, the more likely people are to see you!

Just ride with them off for a month and then turn them on and ride for another month with them on. I think you'll be surprised at how much more noticed you are. Are they passing lites or driving lites? I always though they were driving lites.

I have them on my Fatboy. Mine are a little reversed than most. I have them wired to come on with my high beams. I just keep the switch ON all the time. They are dual filament lights (high and low) and I probably could wire them up to be on low with the lows and high with the highs. BUT MOST of my riding is done in the daylight thanks to our Alaskan summer daylight times. Only THIS time of year do you really NEED to have as much light output as possible.

Default The more the Better

I recently bought a Heritage as well. I keep mine on all the time.. Day/Ninght it doesnt matter.. I would rather someone see me and flip me off for all my lights being on then not see me at all.. Plus I think they look better on anyway

They come with a 27w bulb. I put in a 50w, they now light up the night. I hooked them up to foot dimmer switch (old automotive type) and mounted it near the gear shifter. The toggle switch is still operative, but left on all the time. I switch it on and off with my foot. Use them mostly at night as extra bright high beam. Works well.

Whats the part number for the 50w bulb. Does the original socket work? My passing lamps are off an 08 Road King and have a 35w bulb. Wonder if their is much diff between a 35 and 50w.

I got it at an auto parts store (UAP Napa in Canada). They had the 27w in stock, just had to order the brighter one . Not a problem at all. Any auto parts outlet should be able to get you one.

I leave my passing lamps on all the time, like the doc says, the more light, the likelihood that others will see you....
