What other plans do you have for the upgrade? I went 103 with andrews 54H. Did the calculations and wouldn't need the compression releases just for that but I went cometic 0.03 gaskets which increased static compression over the magical 190 so got them put in. What are you doing for valves?
jla, your taking the heads and cylinders off... if you don't do the heads now your going to be up for a similar cost in a years time when you do. Why not chat to whomever is doing the build, to your tuner and build something that works with all the bits (incl exhaust) and not just a compilation of random parts that may work against what you want (ie low range cams with high range pipes, with cams that like compression with no increased compression, not saying thta is the case just identifying a couple of things that need to be considered). Do it once and do it right, tell them what you want out of the bike ie power range that suits your riding style and go from there.

Yeah, that would seem to make more sense, but I don't mind ripping the heads off myself later on, and I can only sink so much money into it at one time. Might do the heads next year, or might be happy with what I have, and not bother. I'll never change the exhaust or breather, but they should hold up great with what I'm building it up to. The only thing I should really be doing to go along with the upgrade is put a pcv on. I'll give in one of these days, but until the warranty is up, I just can't bring myself to do it.
I have the 103 with the 255 cams on my Rocker C. you can lug it to death and it always has the torque to come on like a bear. It loves crusing at 80 on the innerstate (it is a six speed), and does not lack on top end power. Depending on the last gas fillup (brand) it kicks back ocassionally, could probably use the release.
there is also a few other mods that help also.
thanks

I looked at 103 kits and decided to go with S&S106 kit and a woods cam not much more money but alot more for my money, the 255 cams have alot of lift but almost stock duration.
i have the 103/255 kit fitted to my fatboy. great fun but feel the brakes need an upgrade now. i have manual decompresors fitted after having a 110" glide with the auto ones fitted which were a pain and never worked 100%. not had any problems yet but only got 1500miles on since the kit fitted.
I looked at the 106 kit and was ready to buy it. My wrencher kinda talked me out of it, but I hear ya, more bang for the buck... Anyways, I was in to check on my baby today, and it was all tore apart, but they started putting it back together. Maybe in a few years I'll get brave and do the 106 myself? I can wait for the first ride tomorrow night. Gonna rain though, so I'll have to be gentle...
