Default To Thundermax or Not

I'm wondering if it would be worththe money to purchase the thundermax or not. I have an '01 stoftail standard and i'm finally going to be able to start wrenching on it. I want to put the BUB exhaust on with the screaming eagle air breather kit. So, the question is will it be worth it or should i go with a power commander or something else. Any help would be great and apprectiated.

I like the Thundermax and plan on putting one on my bike when the cash is available. I say do it. I can get you a nice discount on one too.

Had a PC III and ended up replacing it with a ThunderMax as it had the auto-tune feature. No looking back here... great addition for sure!

I had a Thundermax on mine and it was giving me too many issues. From the beginning I had the "known issue" where the speedo loses contact with the ECM and the only "workaround" for that from Zipper's is to cycle the ignition switch. I had a couple of other issues like an off idle issue that I couldn't resolve and also had my ignition switch go out on me from an over current issue (not sure if this was a TM issue), but required replacing the ignition switch, plus the bike broke down on my in the middle of rush hour traffic. For me I lost trust in the TM unit, and no one could look at it cuz it you're no longer using the Harley ECM. Zipper's didn't seem to be much help either.

A lot of people have had good luck with the TM, but I didn't so I just couldn't keep a unit on my bike that is "flaky". I recently took out the TM and replaced my stock ECM, and added the MasterTune to it. Even by just replacing with the stock ECM, my idle issue immediately went away. Maybe my bad luck with aftermarket, but I don't know.
Good luck in your choice.

you could get the non auto tune TM for your bike but for what you have a pclll and a dyno tune would be best

I put a TM on my bike about three months ago and and I'm very happy with the performance. I did have an issue last week where the it lost the speedometer calibration for no apparent reason. My indy who sold it to me and installed it reset the thing on Friday and all seems good so far. He said that he'd replace the unit if it happens again. I'm a firm believer that nothing happens without a cause, and things don't fix themselves, so I'm just waiting for the problem to reappear.

I think there pretty pricey, if it's a bike your gonna keep for awhile I would, but if not I would do the Fuel Moto preloaded PCIII. More than half the price.

it has a software bug they cant find. easy to stop the bike and turn off the ignition and then start it again. seems to happen once with the new map they released. (566) 1 time in 4000 miles. I can live with that bug. if the data plug comes loose same thing happens but at least it keeps running

I love my TTS Mastertune, but an 01 I'd say a PC III or similar would be a good choice.
