Hey yall. I've been riding my 08 Train a lot more than I use to. I'm begining to find the things about the Train I originaly loved are causing me more grief. I'm wanting/needing to basicaly turn it into a bagger more or less. I'd like to hear from yall who have put some kind of windscreen and bags on. I'm also wanting to do something with my foot controls/pegs......maybe transplant some floor boards or something and a larger front fender.
Trading it for a road king or similar would be a lot easier, and probably cheeper....but my bike was my welcome home gift to myself after my second deployment and my first Harley....so I dont realy wanna get rid of it.
Any tips, advise or pics yall could toss my way would be appreciated.
It's pretty easy to turn it into what HD is now calling a convertible. I've got the Leatherpro bags which lock and lock to the bike but come off in no time. I use a HD detachable compact windshield for the longer trips and Patriot Guard rides. So in no time I can be ready to travel or strip down to just ride around town.
Thanks for the reply. I've heard people who put windshields on say that they get blasted by the wind from underneath with the windshield on....vs being blasted head on. Did you have the same thing happen? I know there's the wind guards that mount to the forks for the bikes with bigger forks (harritage, fatty, ect).....do they make them for our skinny forks too?
Thank you for ridding with the Guard. Both return trips I made from over there we had PGR escorts. What a great feeling to be welcomed home by roaring pipes!
If you want to get really crazy with it, I saw a dude with a full rear fender and stretched HD hard bags on a Night Train once. It looked incredible.....
I can't say anything about windshields because I've never used one before.
But as far as floorboards, if you want to get the comfort but don't like the look of floorboards, look into footpegs with heelrests or stirrups. I have the Kuryakyn ones, and they are VERY comfortable, one of the best mods I've done on my bike.
For bags, I'm hoping to get a large or medium Biker's Friend bag. You can strap it on the top of the rear fender.

I do get wind from under the windshield and it is a little different than without the windshield on. But if you ride with your legs close to the tank it's really not an issue and you can control how breezy it is by how close your legs are to the tank.
6fthook, I was actually just looking at some at my local parts place. Not sure which road I'll take just yet. Guess it depends on wether or not I can find somebody with some boards (bracket and all) for sale.
