I know it has been done but what does everybody think about dooing this? and if so anything special you had to do? Also i have heard of some people even putting an A engine in their softail chassis. Who sells the mounts to make that happen.
Don't do it. Everyone I know that has removed the balancers has regretted it. The bike will shake fillings loose. I guess anything is possible but I am not seeing how an A engine will fit a softail frame; that's a new one on me.
I considered it on my cvo springer when we split the cases this year and welded the crank but decided to keep the balancers. In the long run I think I'll be glad I did.
The only reason to remove the balancer would be to pick up power that the balancer robs. It's not alot of power and the thing will vibrate so bad it will suck to ride.
The twin cam motors run shorter strokes than the evos and older motors so they will have a higher freqeuncy vibration that, I'm sure, will be unpleasant. Not sure what you're trying to gain here.
I can't answer your question, but (like most others) why the hell would you want to do that? If you want the minute amount of power from internal oil drag back, put in some new cams or something.
I know it has been done before. Just seeing what people thought of it after they done it. i highly doubt that i will do this but just wanted some input. And for everybody's why's... If you dont have experience doing this just keep your comments for yourself. I know the bike will shake more "so what? obviously you people havent been on a 4 speed going 90 mph down the highway. Who cares if it vibrates its a harley.
Maybe the reason you haven't seen anything about the result is the people that have done it to a stock engine don't want to talk about it. At idle it will rattle your teeth. If you had ever ridden a real hard tail you would know that.
Most that have done this is when they kicked the hp way up. Then did a major balance in the engine to compensate.
By Harley's own specs the two stock engines, 96 and 96B, produce the same hp and torque. Specs that show them so different are taken at different rpm's. The CB's might steal 2hp. Wow!
