Loud shirts do nothing when your in traffic and in a blind spot.
Because a topic has not been studied, does not make it false. There has not been a scientific study on it, and therefore taking the proposition that it is a myth is nothing more than an opinion. Excessively loud, that is an opinion. 81db's is not excessively loud, yet according to the legislature it is. City traffic inside a car is 85 db's and traffic with trucks is 90 db's. My bike is as loud as a truck and people hear me in their blind spot.
I hope you don't use a power mower, it comes in at 107db's!
I am sure both sides of the debate can find statistics that support their side of the coin. I won't even attempt to persuade you to see any side other than yours. Welcome to America where opinions are a dime a dozen and for some reason they all count.
Back to the original topic, the fact is, its a bill, its passed and it is what it is. It is my belief that there will be several vendors on the market with performance pipes that have a lower sound decibel. If you wan your bike to have performance pipes they will be there. The imports have had them for years... It's our turn to get them. If you like loud pipes, then that's your gig.
And for the record, my tractor still has a factory OEM exhaust, if they come out with a nice shiny chrome one I will think about it, but only if it does not increase the noise level.
I hope people understand that 90 dB's are not that loud. It would take OVER EIGHT HOURS of constant exposure EVERY DAY to exceeded OSHA's safety standards.
We're an enviromenatlly friendly lot really...we save fossil fuels by buying bikes ...then get penalised
Re, loud pipes..its just a byproduct of a performance pipe..it's more open to let the gasses pass out more quickly, well thats what I bought them for..just a tad more power.
Don't qoute me on this but did Harley change to injection to meet the newer emission laws ? Was the V Rod a secret test bed for future water cooled Harleys
Least theres a silver lining in the cloud..all pre 2013 second hand values will go up...I mean who wants a Harley that you can't touch
Do they have noise regulations on 2500 and 3500 trucks with boosted turbos and open exhausts. Or how about cali's hot rod community are their laws regulating the noise of a 502 motor stock or aftermarket pipes on this motor is loud as hell!
Seems like a discrimination bill to me more than anything.
I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado Sportside that is Pro-Streeted, and a 800hp. 6-71 blown 383ci Chevy powered 1923 Ford Model-T, and I can't run straight pipes with no mufflers, but I see Harley's all over with straight pipes and no mufflers all the time.
Who's being discriminated here ?
My Grandfather who rode cross Country, raced board tracks and hill climbs back in the twenties always told me that you can get away with more if it's quiet.
It is the few bad ones that make it bad for everyone else.
It's always been this way.
We need to self police ourselves to stop more laws from becoming laws.

@ badinc1...
A 1990 Chevy Silverado Sportside that is Pro-Streeted, and a 800hp. 6-71 blown 383ci Chevy powered 1923 Ford Model-T with open pipes is gonna make a weeny bit more noise than a Harley with 105 db,s I reckon
Bikers should get together there and form some kind of union or something like that...they have here in Sweden called SMC(Swedish Motor Cyclists)http://www.svmc.se/
Course you got to pay membership but they keep up with all the new regulations, inform the members and arrange petitions or peacefull bike demonstrations..just gives a voice to motorcyclists here.
Apart from that they arrange rides/discounts etc etc..
It's too late to shut the barn door after the horse has bolted...find out what you can do there as a motorcyclist and get active...
just sayin',,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
In America, we have such a group.
It's called the A.M.A. [American Motocyclist Assoc.]
I'm a member.
